…And Bill Said, “Shalom”
I had lunch the other day with Bill, my old friend from high school. We had lunch out at the Harp, and after a bit of chit chat, we started to talk about the “Organized Religion is Bunk” point in my 2006 wrap up.
“I’ve come to a similar decision — Christianity, at least, is bunk,” he said.
This is a big deal, because Bill was not just “Bill” back in The Day. Bill was “Bill the Baptist.” We all had more discussions about the validity of the Bible, faith, etc in those days, and Bill always took the True Believer standpoint. Bill was a licensed minister in the Southern Baptist Convention. The man’s studied his history, his scripture, his Hebrew and Greek. So this news was very interesting to me.
There are a good many reasons that we discussed, all of which will be in an episode of Unquiet Desperation. But the upshot of it all is that, after years of study, Bill went back to the faith that was passed down on this Mother’s side. Bill has returned to Judaism.
This is fascinating to me on several levels. The biggest question was, “Okay…if that’s the case…who was Jesus? What was his significance?”
“He was one of many ‘Messiahs’ that popped up around that time. No more, no less.”
Very interesting. We talked about the way that the majority of Christianity is based on hijacked forms of regional pagan beliefs, and the way that the church fathers rearranged the Tanakh to make it seem as if everything in the Old Testament leads to Jesus.
Which it doesn’t, really. Go down to your local bookstore and compare the two books. When you really start to look at the politics of the time, the way the Bible was invented, it becomes obvious that it’s all contrived. Go read about Mithras and see if anything sounds familiar.
Lunch was far too short, and so we’ll be doing an episode on this n the next Unquiet Desperation podcast. I’m really looking forward to it.

Sure enough, that link is 404′d.
It seemed like it had been a long time since your last podcast… I hope I didn’t miss anything because I have the wrong address.
Anyways, best of luck with your pile o’ projects.
