Weight Loss Journaling
By Chris on Feb 15, 2007 in Essays
I’ve written this post at least six times. Here goes number seven.
I’m told that one of the most powerful motivators to doing anythign is to make it public, so that anyone can check on you and hold you accountable. I hope that’s the case. It’s common knowledge that I need to lose weight something fierce. I current weight 350 lbs, and I should be down between 160-200. I’m going to start journaling about the process here, in the hopes that writing about it will spur my efforts and, also, to allow folks to give me feedback should they wish.
For those who do not know, my wife is a fitness instructor at the local YMCA. I’ve asked her to create a workout program for me that I can do in a moderate amount of time, about 30 minutes a day. For week one, this is:
- 8 crunches
- 8 reverses
- 8 doubles
- Hold plank for 5 long breaths
- 15 minutes of extra walking a day.1
Need to get moving for work now, but I wanted to start this up. I think it’s important. While I’m not sure why anyone would want to read about it, I hope that some of you find it…what? Entertaining? Interesting?
Hurm.
- I take the bus, so I have a 10 minutes walk to the stop, 10 minutes back at night, and I get off about 5 stops early to get more walking time in. This 15 in in addition to all of that.[back]

I’m game… get to WORK!!
Due to some liver issues I’m supposed to stay in shape, but I’ve never been very good at that.
Liza and I bought an exercise machine (takes up half of our guest bedroom) before Christmas and I’ve used it… once so far. (sigh)…
I’ll exercise tonight in your honor. Don’t let me down, Chris.

I know what a crunch is. I’m pretty sure I know what a reverse (crunch) is. I have no idea what a double is, and I’m not sure about the plank thing.
I only make the observation because I should probably be doing crunches, reverses, doubles and the rest, too.

That’s wonderful that you are doing this. Really. I’m sure that anyone who cares about your well being would be interested to hear of your progress. You may even inspire some of us less fit types, to get motivated about taking better care of ourselves. I see that you already had your first success in motivating Mr. Holyfield into action.
Entertaining? Well, perhaps. It depends upon how you describe (exaggerate
) your struggles in your journal, using that wonderful gift for writing that we have all come to love.
As for me, I will do some gardening tonight, in the rain, at the risk of making my legs all wobbly for the next few days (which is what happened last time… apparently I’m that out of shape).
So, does this mean we, your loyal readers, can harass you occasionally to fighting the good fight?

I did okay last night. I worked on upper body crap (biceps, triceps, chest). Skip tonight (got to finish editing first pre-episode of podcast) and then abdominals tomorrow (ouch).

Sooo… it’s been a week. How’s the exercise routine going? Do we get to see a new journal entry soon?

Absolutely. Look for one tomorrow.
