Santa Monica, Tuesday Morning

While it’s incredibly cool to be working from home, it’s also incredibly cool to meet up with your co-workers. That’s what I’m doing out in Los Angeles this week…it’s Mahalo CodeJam 2.0.

This is the first time that all the Mahalo developers have been in the same place at the same time. Usually, we travel out to the mother ship individually, but gathering us all for a week of intensive discussion and working was something we were all looking forward to.

Truth is, it’s even better than I could have imagined. I work with some really awesome people.

One of the joys of doing this sort of thing is that same sort of sharing that happens at the best conventions. You don’t realize how truly brilliant your peers are until you can get in a room and discuss your work for a while. We’ve taken over the main conference room at the mothership for exactly that purpose. I’ve mentally christened it The Swamp, after both the home of Hawkeye, BJ, and Frank Burns on M*A*S*H, and after the developer cloister back at Optiem. It seems fitting.

So, now I’m sitting in the hotel, waiting on breakfast and for the other guys to come down. And breakfast has arrived. More later, and pics on flickr in a bit.
