How to Drink Whiskey – Mahalo

Excellent. Now here’s a skill I’d like to hone in the new year…
There truly is an art to correctly drinking [[[whiskey]]] (or “whisky” as the Scots spell it). While some people like to mix whiskey with Coke or ginger ale, take shots, or drink it on the rocks, the only way to truly appreciate it as a connoisseur is to drink it straight. Follow the steps below to maximize your experience.
Minus the water part, its a lot like wine tasting.
The local Celtic Faire does a whiskey tasting event which I’ve not yet joined, but I always wondered how you could stand to drink so much of the stuff in one sitting. I guess this is how.
I read in a cocktail coffeetable book that the best water to use is water from the same source that they use to make the whiskey. A bit tough logistically…

I agree – straight shot, throw it down. But here’s a trick to everyone choking on their shot: Put a bit of coca cola in your mouth first. Then put in the shot, and let the coke chase down the shot. Hold your breath the entire time and breathe only after the shot is down. It works. Once the shot is down, breathe out, and then breathe again.
