Cross-Species Fecal Management
Monday, January 7th, 2008My wife and I were reviewing our Poop Management Plan this morning while staring out at the backyard.
We realize now that, by adopting a new dog in the winter, we have somewhat screwed ourselves. The original plan was to train her to go in a particular part of the yard, so that the Shit Storage Zone would be localized, and so that we could enjoy in the backyard without watching for landmines.
Unfortunately, the fenced-in backyard makes it too easy to just let the pooch out the back door to do her business rather than suiting up and waking her back to the proper section of the yard.
What brings this to light right now is the spring-like weather we’re enjoying. Snow can cover a multitude of sins or, in this case, doo-doo.
After spending two full days finding all the little piles and cleaning them up, we are now fully recommitted to setting up a proper Offal Processing Yard next to the garage, where these is a three-foot strip of land that no one ever uses. We’ll fence it in1, life will be grand, the yard will be poop free.
- Which is another thing. We’ve held on to two iron gratings for the last five years until, in a fit of madness, we cleaned out the garage over the summer. We tossed them out in the trash. Now we’re looking for something we have on hand to form a makeshift pen. And guess what would have been perfect? *sigh*[back]
